Very Good +
Description
Tokyo: A+U (Architecture and Urbanism), 1975. Pictorial cloth. Very Good +/Very Good. The uncommon Japanese catalogue, circa 1975 (just after Louis Kahn's death). Tight and VG+ in its pictorial white cloth. And in a decorative silver dustjacket, with drawn flourishes surrounding a simple, elegant photo of Louis Kahn teaching. Light wear along the spine crown, very mild creasing --and several tiny closed tears-- at the panel edges. Text almost exclusively in Japanese, except for the rear of the catalogue (Part Eight--Articles), which labels each tribute to Louis Kahn. And they include: Louis Kahn -- "I Love Beginnings"; Vincnt Scully -- "Works of Louis I. Kahn and His Method"; Stanford Anderson -- "Louis I. Kahn in the 1960's"; B.V. Doshi -- "Louis I. Kahn in India"; Fumihiko Maki -- "Contemporary Classic: Kimbell Art Museum"; Peter Smithson -- "Thinking of Louis I. Kahn"; and Uttam C. Jain -- "Obituary of a Poetic Genius

Description
c.1968. Original engraving. Printed in black on Fabbiano mold-made paper; sheet size 50cm x 70cm (ca 20" x 27"); image area 35cm x 36cm (ca. 14" x 14-1/2"). Signed in pencil lower right; additionally inscribed, "A Giovanni i Gebbe Scianna" [i.e., Jonathan & Jean Shahn]; titled illegibly lower left. Faint foxing and soil to margins (well away from printed area); Near Fine. Edition not stated. A striking image by Sicilian painter, illustrator and printmaker Bruno Caruso (1927-1918). Much of Caruso's work during the late 1960s and early 1970s was intensely political, inspired by social justice movements around the world including anti-colonial movements in Africa, the civil rights movement in the U.S., and, as here, opposition to the Vietnam War.

Description
New York: William Sloane Associates, Inc, 1946. First Edition, First Printing. Cloth. Very good/near fine. The first edition of Thunder Out Of China, signed by Theodore H. White and Annalee Jacoby, the first book from Theodore H. White.. Octavo, xvi, 331pp, [1]. Blue cloth, title stamped in copper gilt on the spine. Stated "First Edition" on the copyright page. Illustrated endpapers. A few pencil notes and underlined passages. Rubbing along lower edge of boards. Solid text bock. In the publisher's dust jacket, price clipped, light toning along margins of rear panel, a near fine example. Signed opposite the title page: "Hello again / Annalee Jacoby / Theodore H. White." Thunder Out of China is a first-person account of China during World War II, focusing on the Sino-Japanese conflict and the collapse of Chiang Kai-shek's Nationalist government. It provided one of the first in-depth American perspectives on the political corruption, military disarray, and popular suffering that plagued China in the 1930s and 1940s. It was both widely read and influential, shaping U.S. public opinion about China's internal struggles and helping to explain the eventual Communist victory in 1949.
