Description
Ithaca, NY: n.p., n.d.. Fine. Apparently a unique copy, one of Fernando Llosa's beautiful one-of-a-kind artist books. Fourteen mounted Indian ink washes by the artist loose in case. The mounts are 8 inches square. The illustrations vary considerably in size. Each mount is initialed by the artist on the reverse, and each illustration has a barely visible number written on the lower right corner. A fine set in its original clamshell case. The case itself is a work of art. Tan buckram. The upper board contains a raised square onto which are onlaid a golden disk and a petrified fossil. The inside is lined with a soft Asian paper containing flower petals. The artist has written the title and publishing information on the inside of the upper cover. While Llosa has done some limited editions, some books are unique. Examples are "Seen in Ithaca" and "A Glimpse of Death from the Vantage Point of Love". His books are always scarce and much in demand because of his fabulous ink washes. In fine condition. .

Very Good +
Description
London: Nisbet & Co, 1920. First thus. Very Good +. First edition featuring Thomas Mackenzie's illustrations. One of 250 copies signed by the illustrator. A Very Good+ copy. Quarto, leaves measuring 330 x 255 mm. Complete with all twelve mounted color plates (including frontispiece) and captioned tissue guards. Publisher's white cloth elaborately stamped in gilt. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Binding somewhat dustsoiled. Darkening to spine. Some toning to endpapers. Some dustsoiling to first few leaves and to tissue guards. Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp in Rhyme is a reimagining of one of the most famous tales from the Arabian Nights, here presented with beautiful illustrations by Thomas Mackenzie. "Born in Bradford, Yorkshire, Mackenzie [1887-1944] studied at the Bradford College of Art and then at the Slade. When he finished his studies, he was commissioned by the publisher James Nisbet to illustrate in watercolour an edition of Arthur and His Knights [1920]. Most of his illustrative work shows the influence of Beardsley, Harry Clarke and colour plate illustrators like Kay Nielsen. The Crock of Gold [1926], for example, is illustrated with twelve colour plates and black and white decorative headings and tailpieces. He was also an etcher and engraver and contributed to the Sketch and other journals" (Horne). Mackenzie's Aladdin is a lavish, dreamy interpretation that sets the tale in imperial China. Very Good +.

Description
1844. Howe, Henry. Howe, Henry. BARBER, JOHN W., and HENRY HOWE. Historical Collections of the State of New Jersey; Containing a General Collection of the Most Interesting Facts, Traditions, Biographical Sketches, Anecdotes, Etc. Relating to its History and Antiquities, with Geographical Descriptions of Every Township in the State. New York, 1844. 512 p. Illus. Plates (2 in color). Contemporary sheep. Text foxed, edges stained from turn-ins, binding scuffed--issues always found in the 1844 edition. Front hinge cracking at top. First edition of the most popular general history of New Jersey, in a relatively rare essentially respectable original binding. Over the next 24 years the book went through several printings, each with minor revisions. The many charming woodcuts of town views are particularly appealing. The poor quality sheepskin used to bind this edition is usually found deteriorated beyond repair; this copy is a survivor. For a lengthy essay on this remarkable book, and a bibliographical analysis of the various editions, see Felcone, New Jersey Books (2nd edn.), 59-68, 2499-2501.
