Description
Washington DC: Institute for Services to Education, 1972. Very good.. Pedagogical handbook developed by the Institute for Services to Education, a 1970s policy group focused on the university recruitment and retention of black students. The ISE developed MAN & HIS CREATIVE AWARENESS in close collaboration with the Thirteen-College Consortium and the Five (later Six) Colleges Consortium, both associations of predominantly black colleges. The materials outlined here are divided into four sections. "Part I: Sharpening Perception" is the longest section, featuring a series of units on the graphic arts, literature, music, dance, and drama. Historical overviews, essays, suggested student research projects, and interactive learning ideas are followed by extensive bibliographies and appendices, with all reading and sample syllabi centered on African and Afro-American art and artists. The three shorter sections that follow are "Part II: Esotericism: The Mystery Schools", "Part III: Mythological Man / Man as Protester," and "Part IV: What's Happening in the Humanities Classroom: Teachers Talk." OCLC locates only two institutional holdings. Scarce. 11'' x 8.5''. Original orange pictorial wrappers. 494 pages. Two errata slips laid in, adhesive residue visible. Ownership stamp to both wrappers and endpapers. Moderate edgewear and soil, a few closed tears to front and rear joints.
