Description
Wilmington, Delaware: E. I. Du Pont de Nemours & Company, 1948. First edition. Hardcover. g to vg. Quarto. [6], 25, [1], G-1 to G-5, [1], G-I to G-X, H-1 to H-7, [1], H-I to H-X, A-1to A-6, A-I to A-X, B-1 to B-8, X, C-1 to C-4, X, D-1 to D-3, Xpp. Original full black morocco 20-ring binder, with gold lettering to spine and front cover. Title page in red and black lettering. "This book is for the purpose of showing a specialized range of Du Pont Leather Dyes which are particularly recommended for application to various types of leather. These dyes should simplify the colorist's problem of dyestuff selection and use. Discussion on pages 4 to 10 concerning dyeing procedure and factors affecting color application approaches the subject not only with practical operation in mind but also considers underlying principles. Brief comments and listing of a selected number of Du Pont dyestuffs for shading or special effects are included on pages 11 to 21. These products may be of interest in supplementing the Du Pont Leather Colors. Auxiliary products developed in recent years have become of great importance to the dyer and leather processor, and a separate section is devoted to the description and use of these products on pages 23 to 25. The sections showing actual swatches of leather dyed under tannery conditions are preceded by brief descriptions of the recommended dyeing procedures as well as pertinent facts about the leather in question that might be of interest to the tanner" (from the Introduction). This work is complete with its large flow chart and its 311 mounted leather samples of undyed and dyed calfskin, goatskin, and sheepskin in grain and suede. The swatches (each measuring 1 1/4 x 2 1/2") are mounted on tissue-guarded thick cardstock leaves, thus preventing offsetting on facing samples and leaves. Moderate rubbing along edges of binding. Hinges starting, but reinforced with black linen inner hinges. Typed label pasted on upper corner of title indicates that this was a laboratory copy. Binding in overall good to good+, interior in very good condition.
