Very good
Description
Ohio. Very good. This listing is for a rag doll with exceptional provenance. We acquired it in 2018 from a storage unit buyer in Baltic, Ohio who had recently purchased a unit that contained the papers of several generations of an African American family, many of whom went to Wilberforce University. The most well-known member of that family was the jazz trombonist, Vic Dickenson. Items in the unit spanned from the 1890s to the 1980s and we think this doll is from the late 19th or early 20th century. By Googling “Adventures of an Absent Minded Treasure Hunter” you can read the great story of how the collection was acquired. The doll is wearing an off-white dress and has a red ribbon tied in a bow around her. You can see her stitching on the back of the head. The doll was made with undergarments as well with a blue slip under the dress, a red lining and gingham print underwear. The doll measures 11” x 4¼”.
