Valenti Angelo (1897-1982) was a well-known and highly regarded twentieth-century illustrator who did so many books for the Grabhorn Press, the early Limited Editions Club books, and many more over a career that spanned decades. This book, the result of ten years of research and work by the publishers, Earl and Gloria Emelson, is a collection of essays, tributes, and remembrances by thirty-two authors arranged mostly by time period, lavishly illustrated with over one hundred samples of Angelo's work and photographs; an important resource for anyone interested in Angelo's work and in twentieth-century book illustration. ___DESCRIPTION: Full sky-blue cloth, blind-embossed device by Valenti Angelo on the front board, gilt lettering on the spine, full-colour photographs and facsimiles of Angelo's work throughout; Mohawk Superfine paper, quarto size (12.25" by 9.25"), pagination: [i-vii] viii-x [1-2] 3-159 [160] [1 colophon], one of 250 copies, unnumbered. With prospectus, a single sheet folded twice, printed in blue and white with gold highlights, measures 8 3/4" by 5 3/4" with four printed pages. ___CONDITION: Volume is fine, with clean boards, straight corners with no rubbing, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; a small tear to the paper of (blank) page 2, else fine.
