Inscribed first edition of this satirical short-story collection with a financial theme, including the eponymous Progressive-Era riff on the classic fairy tale, Jack and the Beanstalk. 7'' x 4.75''. Original green pictorial cloth stamped in white, orange, and darker green. Illustrated by Albert Levering in black and white. 236 pages. Inscribed by Bangs in ink on front fly leaf: "To my friend / John Hawkesworth, / these tales of high finances / with the affectionate regards / of John Kendrick Bangs / May 29: 1911." Slight lean, mild edgewear. A bit of soil to margins. Hinges intact.
