Description
In Piacenza: Per Giacomo Ardizzoni Stampatore Camerale, 1627. Folio.  450 x 330 mm., [17 ½ x 13 inches].  Some ancient paper repairs to verso of the folio, paper restoration by leaf casting new paper on left and top margins, some minor staining, illegible signature on version; with faults a stable and useful document. Local document from the Piacenza Board of Trade that requires all distributors and sellers of wine and vinegar to create a ledger, which must be carried on every delivery, and must contain a listing every transactions and include the date, buyer’s name, number of bottle of wine and/or vinegar sold, the value of the sale and the appropriate tax. The announcement goes on to declare that no one in the city of Piacenza may make or bottle wine or vinegar without registering with the local government officials.  This is so the standards established by the city for the size of bottles and amount of wine or vinegar sold is maintained.  A penalty of ten gold coins will be imposed to those who do not abide by this regulation.  The document names, Gio. Battista Montechiaro as the “entrepreneur” who represents the city of Piacenza and is responsible for enforcing the tenants of this declaration.
