New York: Jonathan Cape & Harrison Smith, 1930. First trade edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Good +. 262pp. Octavo [22.5 cm]. Blue cloth over boards. Publisher's black topstain. Spine a bit rolled, with minor warping to the rear board. Backstrip subtly sunned; gilt on backstrip dulled. Head of boards also mildly sunned. Bookseller's ticket on rear pastedown. Dust jacket heavily sunned at spine and folds; these areas are a bit brittle. Edges are chipped with a few scattered, moderate losses. Mild dampstaining to spine, along with a small cracks to the paper (these have been backed with tape). Translated by Alice Raphael. Introduction by Mark Van Doren. Illustrated by Lynd Ward with six full-page wood engravings reproduced by electrotypes and printed in black.
