Very good plus.
Description
(New York): (Exit Art), 1983. First edition. Very good plus.. Rare portfolio documenting Hsieh's third extended performance piece, a full year in New York City spent outside shelter of any kind (save for 15 hours inside a police station courtesy of the NYPD), issued in conjunction with an installation at Franklin Furnace. Each of Hsieh's one-year performances was preceded by a written statement of intent and documented with notes, on film, and in photographs, as his long endurance of his chosen conditions progressed: "In the same way that the images offer an apocalyptic view of the world, they show us the survivor hero who managed to endure the penalties of his circumstances" (Ingberman). Hsieh's first two performances required only personal and artistic discipline and the cooperation of one assistant - staying inside a constructed cell in his own studio and punching a time clock every hour, respectively. This third performance, his so-called 'Outdoor Piece,' was also an experiment in restriction and discipline, but one which took the artist outside the narrow ambit of a controlled gallery or studio space, relinquishing as much control as he asserted: in New York, outside, like Hell, is other people. An uncommon document of this pioneering performance artist. 11'' x 14''. Folder containing six bifold leaves [24 pages] printed with artist's statement and large-scale black and white photographs. Light to moderate edgewear and creasing to folder. Faint foxing here and there. Overall, sound.

Calgary, Alberta: J. W. Dick, 1943. Good. Second printing (a month after the original first); 6 1/2 x 4 1/4; pp. 3-28; textured beige wraps, printed and decorated in red and blue; illustrated with photographs; light discoloration throughout text block (not affecting readability); wraps with a few spots and light age-toning; in good to very good condition. The Alaska Highway, also known as ALCAN Highway, is a 1,387 to 1,645-mile route (due to the realignments of the highway over the years, which has rerouted and straightened many sections). It was constructed in just 8 months during WWII, following the attack on Pearl Harbor, as a military supply route and a connection of the contiguous United States with Alaska through Canada. It begins in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, at the junction of the Canadian Highway 97 and Highway 2, and runs to Delta Junction, Alaska, via Whitehorse, Yukon. Although entirely paved nowadays, it is still considerd a remote, rough, and challenging drive. The curent booklet commemorated, in pictures and verse, the efforts of the pavers, the truckers, the engineers, and all others, who worked to build it.

Description
London: OXO Limited, 1920. Softcover. First edition presumed, n. d. (ca 1920); 7 x 4 3/4; pp. 16; illustrated stiff wraps; a small spot and minor age-toning to margins; mild wear to edges; brown and beige in-line illustrations; very good condition. Possibly one of the earliest OXO cooking booklets, it contained recipes by various women that had been mailed to the company as an expression of the cooks' great satisfaction in using OXO cubes in their cooking and included such delightful concoctions such as OXO Blanc Mange, OXO Devilled Bananas, and OXO Jambon Savory. The OXO beaf stock cubes were first introduced in 1910 as a cheaper version to the original product, which had been a viscous liquid containing only meat extract and 4% salt. Presumably, the brand name OXO was derived from "ox." The OXO products, greatly expanded from those early days, are still very popular to this day.
