Description
Brooklyn: S. STERNAU & COMPANY , 1906. Hardcover. Red and cream cloth covered boards. Good. 147, 31 pages. 23 x 16 cm. "Makers of Coffee Machines, Chafing Dishes and their Accessories, Coffee and Tea Pots, Fancy Kettles, Trays, Smoking Sets, Alcohol Lamps, Bathroom Fixtures, etc. of the Highest Quality." S. Sternau & Company was a Brooklyn-based manufacturer best known as the originator of Sterno, the jellied alcohol "canned heat" fuel. Established in the late 19th century, the company experimented with alcohol burners under the "Sterno-Inferno" name before developing the jellied alcohol fuel that would become Sterno around 1900. This beautifully illustrated trade catalogue includes prices for both copper and nickel-plated items. The supplement added after the index focuses on new-fashioned "Art Deco" styled items. At the turn of the century and in the early 1900s chafing dish cookery was very popular in boardinghouses and single men's and women's rooms as compact, sociable cooking appliances. Interior very lightly soiled. Boards heavily rubbed and soiled.
