Bartlett was the Commissioner of the Mexican Boundary Survey after the Mexican-American War, and his book is a cornerstone work of southwestern travel and exploration. His narrative remains one of the most readable and entertaining accounts of the American Southwest for the period, and the illustrations, engraved after Bartlett's sketches, are some of the most competent depiction's of the area. Laws concerning the military in the state of Maine. Detailed review of Chapter 307 and its sections. Interesting in that there was an exemption for Quakers and Shakers. In addition, no "idiot, lunatic, common drunkard, vagabond, pauper or person convicted of any infamous crime" could be allowed to serve.
