* Palau 986,613; not in Goldsmiths’-Kress; not in Alden-Landis though clearly an Americanum.
Description
Madrid: Agustin Fernandez, 1713. * Palau 986,613; not in Goldsmiths'-Kress; not in Alden-Landis though clearly an Americanum.. Very rare first and sole edition of this professional guide to assaying gold, silver and assorted precious metals by a practicing Madrid assayer, of interest for the international as well as mercantile history of Spain in the last years of her imperial period. The work treats the physical properties of metals from different parts of the Spanish empire (New Mexico, Peru), general methods of determining weights and grades, the precise requirements for producing metals and alloys of different weights, and local differences in assaying terminology in different parts of Spain. For a practical handbook, the author has an unusually scholarly bent and discusses among Spanish authors the previous works of Juan de Arphe (whose tables are the basis for those given here), Roxas, Heras, Y Silva, and among Latin writers Agricola, Ercker, Libavius and others. The NUC records a single copy, at Michigan. OCLC adds Oklahoma. We have also located a copy at the John Carter Brown Library.

Description
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. No binding. Very Good. [Los Angeles: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, 1964]. Vintage original 10 3/4 x 13 1/2" (27 x 34 cm) black-and-white double weight glossy silver gelatin photo. Appears to be borderless with wear at corners, tiny tear at bottom middle area and soil smudging including on face and nose. Very good. A lovely portrait of Julie Andrews used to publicize her appearance in the film which she made between her two mega musicals, Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music. Though set in (and mostly filmed in) war torn England of 1944, Andrews' hair and costume styling was definitely 1964 as seen here. Photo coded 9565E.

Quarto-sized, cord-tied booklet (25 x 20.5 cm.), 42 pages (the Index on pages 33-42 is printed on slightly smaller paper, and appears to have been typeset separately – likely a later addition to the already-printed text pages). Illustrated with two leaves of chromolithograph depictions of dishes. Title from cover. Stated "Third edition of One Hundred Thousand Each." A promotional cookbook from the company that brought us Shredded Wheat. Almost every recipe, from Blueberry Shortcake to Welsh Rarebit, contains Shredded Wheat. The recipes were supplied by, and introduced by Mrs. Harriet A. Higbee, Superintendent of the New Era Cooking School in Worcester Mass. Some light soil to cardstock wrappers, otherwise very good. Wrappers are printed in red, and tied with a cotton cord. [OCLC locates six copies of this edition, and twelve of all editions combined].
