About very good.
Description
Jalapa: Imprenta de Florencio Aburto, 1848. About very good.. 27pp. Original printed wrappers. Small stab holes at gutter margin. Some soiling to wraps. Light tanning. Scarce printing of the state constitution of Veracruz, rewritten in the wake of the Mexican-American War. American forces besieged and occupied the city in March 1847, and thence began their campaign to capture Mexico City. The constitution itself consists of thirteen articles that prescribe the rights of the people and the organization and powers of the state government. Most interesting is Section II, in which the equality of all citizens is asserted, saying, "En el Estado de Veracruz la ley es una para todos, y proteja ó castigue: todos los Veracruzanos son iguales ante ella." OCLC locates copies at Berkeley, Iowa, Tulane, and Harvard.

Description
1860. Eleven Journals, 1860-1870. All printed in North Carolina, with the following imprints: 1860-1864, Fayetteville [by Hale]; 1865, Raleigh [Gorman]; 1866-1868 & 1870, Fayetteville; 1869, Raleigh [Littlefield]. Each Journal @60-128 pp. Bound together in later buckram. First editions, scattered fox and tan, none with original wrappers. Light scattered wear, corner repairs to several leaves of the 1864 Journal. Good+. Private bookplate of Lawrence F. London, author of works on the Episcopal Church in North Carolina. A continuous run of these Journals encompassing North Carolina's most fateful decade, including four Confederate imprints. They are a rare, rich primary source of information on the sundering of the Church by Civil War; the role of the Church under wartime government; adaptations by the Clergy to the revolutionary circumstances; post-War reunification; and religious instruction of slaves and freedmen. Emancipation has resulted, "as regards the colored man," in the "rapid and almost universal deterioration in his moral condition." Thus the Church must take "bold, decisive, and definite action in his behalf" in order to "elevate his character." The Journals are a window on contemporary attitudes toward the momentous changes that occurred during the decade. FIRST EDITIONS. Parrish & Willingham 9191, 9192, 9193, 9194. Thornton 11214.

Description
1969. [Counterculture][Comics] Crumb, R. Motor City Comics. San Francisco: Rip Off Press, April 1969. First printing. Staplebound in original wrappers. A landmark in underground comix and countercultural publishing, Motor City Comics showcases iconic cartoonist Robert Crumb's anarchic satire and radical political voice. Featuring the debut of Lenore Goldberg and her Girl Commandos, this issue exemplifies the genre's revolutionary, anti-authoritarian spirit and explicit critique of gender roles, capitalism, and police violence during the height of the Vietnam War era and second-wave feminism. Crumb's cover art features a militant, buxom Lenore Goldberg punching a grotesquely exaggerated police officer while shouting, "Join the world-family revolution or DIE!"-a powerful symbol of female rebellion against patriarchal and state power. Within, stories like "The Desperate Character," "Deep Meaning Comics," and "Boingy Baxter" blend absurdist humor with sharp social commentary. Themes of class struggle, generational alienation, and existential despair saturate the panels, often punctuated by Crumb's signature grotesque figuration and text-heavy reflections. Especially notable is the comic's feminist satire, which-while controversial in its depiction-elevates Goldberg as a rare radical female figure in a male-dominated genre. On the back cover, Crumb's "Workers of the World Arise!" offers a proletarian call to arms, parodying Marxist propaganda while sincerely addressing labor exploitation and alienation in late-capitalist America. Light wear consistent with age, overall clean and well preserved. Overall very good condition. Motor City Comics remains an excellent example of the underground comix movement, 1960s political art, and gender in countercultural media.
