Very good
Description
Paris: A. Capendu, 1890. Hardcover. Very good. Folio. Publisher's cloth-backed boards illustrated in color. The text block is loose but holding. Six full page movable illustrations with captions in French. The boards are soiled and worn at the edges. The movables are complete and in working order, though there is some minor creasing. Several of them have repaired closed tears above the tab ends. All in all this is a very good exemplar of a Meggendorfer movable. Montanaro, p. 19, records the English edition, "Artistic Pussy and her Studio", ascribing a date of "189-?" .

Good plus.
Description
[Twin Falls, Id: June, 1910. Good plus.. 7pp. of mimeographed text, ten folding blueprint charts, Index leaf, and four leaves displaying sixteen original photographs keyed to the Index, plus a single sheet of weir calculations laid in. Original plain wrappers, front wrapper lacking, rear wrapper and one blueprint detached. Minor edge wear, some chipping and closed edge tears to outer leaves. An informative and likely unique report compiled by C.E. Carter, an engineer with the Twin Falls North Side Land & Water Company. The body of the report consists of seven pages of text and ten folding blueprints containing sketch plans and tables of data pertaining to the tests and discharge of three separate depth tests for measuring suppressed weirs (used to divert water flow within rivers). The sixteen photographs at the rear of the work show the dam in which the testing took place, the regulating weir, in-process testing, areas of leakage, the five-foot weir running at full capacity, and other aspects of the tests. OCLC records a handful of entries for works relating to the Twin Falls North Side Land & Water Company, but not the present report; considering it was compiled with text, blueprint plans and tables, and original photographs, it is likely unique or at least the only surviving example of the report.

Wraps torn at seam, slightly musty odor, good condition.
Description
Chicago, Illinois: Egyptian Press, 1932. Folio, 5 pp. Wraps torn at seam, slightly musty odor, good condition.. An unrecorded composition by a woman who travelled through the midwest claiming to be a descendant of Cleopatra using the name Princess Dalla Pattra. The details of the princess are murky, as she disappears from newspaper records after 1930, when she admitted in court to using a manager to stage a publicity stunt in St. Louis.[1] In her hearing, she also admitted that she had been arrested for embezzlement in San Francisco in 1920. Two years later, rather inexplicably, this songsheet was published in collaboration with a Max Lander, who according to patent records was English. The introduction to the song reads: “Hear the desert winds shriek and the tom-toms in the distance thrilling with the weird undertone of the desert night then the calm as the Royal Egyptian Maiden sings her love song to her desert prince.” We find no record of the composition in OCLC or anywhere else, or of the princess in newspapers after her 1930 court appearance, with the only findable record of her continued impersonation a patent registered in 1931[2] and this song sheet. Very good. Light toning, spotting, a couple short tears.
Description
Schenectady, New York: The Dr. Williams Medicine Co, 1897. Very good. Light toning, spotting, a couple short tears.. An advertising booklet promoting patent medicines, including "Dr. Williams Pink Pills for Pale People" and "Hanson's Magic Corn Salve". The bulk of the booklet is taken up by a dictionary of "over 10,000 words and definitions, carefully compiled from Webster, Worcester and Johnson". Also includes a calendar for the year 1898, and stories and testimonials from happy customers/patients, with small in-text line drawings throughout to illustrate the stories. Afflictions cured include everything from dyspepsia to sleeplessness and illnesses "peculiar" to the "female sex". It is clear that the company is marketing its products to housewives and families, as it contains sentimental and feel-good stories of afflicted children, mothers, and a girl in her teens being cured. A nice example of the kind of advertising ephemera one might pick up from the pharmacy or in the mail at this time. Single vol. (9" by 6"), pp. 32, illus., in original illus. wrps with line drawing of young girl reading with Father Time, surrounded by images of famous lexicographer.

Description
Acme Photos. No binding. About Fine. Washington, D.C.: Acme Photo, 1948. Vintage original 7 x 9" (17 x 22 cm) black-and-white glossy silver gelatin photo. Acme Photo ink date stamp of May 4, 1948, and full text blurb on verso. Minor use, about fine. Press photo of screenwriter Dalton Trumbo leaving his hearing with the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), which named him number two of the Hollywood writers and directors who will go to trial. Dalton Trumbo was a famous screenwriter caught in the Hollywood blacklist of the 1940s-50s for his political beliefs and refusal to name suspected communists to the HUAC, leading to prison and a decade of secret writing under pseudonyms for films like Spartacus and Exodus, both of which ultimately broke the blacklist and restored his name. He was a member of the Hollywood Ten, imprisoned for contempt and emerging as a symbol of defiance, winning two Oscars (one posthumously) under assumed names before receiving full credit, making him a key figure in fighting censorship and defending free speech.
