Seller
Second Story Books, ABAA (United States)
Description
A group of nine large-format academic and professional certificates associated with American medical education and professional qualification. These documents are printed in elaborate period typography with decorative calligraphic headings, engraved ornament, and institutional seals, typical of formal diplomas issued by American medical schools during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Several retain original embossed paper seals, foil seals, or attached silk ribbons. Lot includes diplomas from Louisville, Tulane (1906), Detroit Medical College (1869), Indiana (1909), Georgetown (1863), Michigan, Bennett Medical College, and University of the City of New York (c1834). Diplomas measure 15.5 in. x 19 in. to 18.5 in. x 24 in. In Good condition overall. Sheets show mild to moderate toning, scattered foxing, surface soiling, and occasional staining. Several examples exhibit creasing, edge wear, small tears, and minor losses along the margins from handling and prior rolling or folding. Embossed seals remain present though some show wear; attached ribbons display fraying and fading. Printed text and manuscript signatures remain largely legible. Shelved at Rockville Room J. 1409980. Special Collections - Upstairs.
