Description
1855. Does Slavery Christianize the Negro? Higginson, Thomas Wenthworth. American Anti-Slavery Society. Anti-Slavery Tracts No. 4, circa 1855.New York: American Anti-Slavery Society. Anti-Slavery Tracts No. 4, circa 1855. in original wrappers, 8 pages. 4.75" x 7.5" inches. Higginson was a Unitarian minister and dedicated abolitionist. The text in this tract was originally delivered as a sermon in Worcester, Massachusetts in June, 1854. Supported by repots from Southern ministers, Higginson argues in this Antislavery pamphlet, that despite slaveowners' claims of benevolence and the alleged civilizing, moral influence of slavery upon the enslaved, slaves in the US in fact receive no sound religious instruction from their masters and exist in a state of "moral degradation" and are "the heathen of this Christian country." Spot of foxing on front cover, light handling wear but very good condition overall.

Description
Paris: Editions des Arts et Metiers Graphiques, 1936. Original wraps. Very Good +. The 1936 edition of this impressive, short-lived French annual issued out of Paris and lasting only 11 years all told in this original incarnation. 120 lavish full-page gravures by the likes of Andre Kertesz, George Hurrel, Bill Brandt, Ylla, George Platt Lynes, Cecil Beaton, Herbert List et al. Also includes roughly a dozen wonderful period ads at the rear. This issue has held up very well to boot: clean and VG+ to Near Fine in its spiral-bound, pictorial wrappers, with just a touch of very light creasing along the panel edges. Tall quarto, crisp and very presentable, with a number of hauntingly beautiful photos. Also includes a handsome navy-blue custom-made box (with bright gilt-titling along the spine), which houses the annual.
