Description
[Los Angeles]: Goldenvoice / SST, 1985. First edition. Very good.. Flyer promoting a January 11th, 1985 Black Flag show at the Stardust Ballroom - inscribed on the verso by artist Raymond Pettibon. Just as Jamie Reid's artwork define UK punk design, Raymond Pettibon is the artist most associated with American -and especially Southern California - punk rock. His indelible black-and-white images graced LPs and fliers for the likes of the Circle Jerks, Dead Kennedy's, Descendents, Germs, Hüsker Dü, Meat Puppets, Minutemen, Ramones, Sonic Youth, Subhumans, Throbbing Gristle, and (most famously, as here) Black Flag -whose name the artist coined and whose iconic logo he designed. Pettibon's brother Greg Ginn was guitarist for the band and founder of SST Records. Pettibon (who's also worked under the names Raymond Pettibone, St. Pettibone, Chuck Higby, Raymond Ginn, and Ray Dylan) remains one of the most provocative and vital artists working today, and one whose influence has grown far past his cult beginnings. Signed Pettibon flyers in our experience are uncommon. 11'' x 8.5''. Original black-and-white pictorial broadside flyer featuring art by Raymond Pettibone. Offset printed recto only. Inscribed by Pettibon on the verso: "For Igor / Raymond Pettibon." Old folds (in eighths), stain to one corner. Apparent ten-song set-list from an undated SWA show penned on verso in an unknown hand.
