Description
1927. First Edition. Signed. MORGENSTERN, Oscar. Friedrich Von Weiser, 1851-1926. REPRINTED FROM: American Economic Review, Volume XVII, Number 4. [Princeton: American Economic Association, 1927]. $2400.First offprint edition of economist Oskar Morgenstern's eulogy for his former teacher, Friedrich von Wieser, inscribed on the front wrapper in the year of publication: ""Herrn Dr. E. Schramm mit freundl. gruß. Verf. Dez 1927.""This is the first separate appearance of Morgenstern's obituary and eulogy for his former teacher, Friedrich von Weiser. Morgenstern refers to Wieser as ""the last of the great triumvirate who founded the Austrian School of Economics."" He writes, ""Death has deprived economics of one of its ablest figures; economic theory has suffered a heavy loss."" Wieser was best known for developed Mengerian economics with regards to the influence of costs upon price. He also coined the term marginal utility, a concept that has become a staple of modern economics. Economist Oskar Morgenstern, one of his most successful pupils, is best remembered as the co-developer of game theory with mathematician John von Neumann. This work was first printed in December 1927 in the American Economic Review, the flagship publication of the American Economic Association. This copy is inscribed to E. Schramm, possibly the German historian Percy Ernst Schramm. From the collection of Professor Sir Richard Stone, the 1984 Nobel laureate in economics.A beautiful inscribed copy in about-fine condition.

Description
London: Sherwood, Gilbert, and Piper, 1830. Very good.. Late Georgian almanac in a terrific early publisher's muslin binding with printed text and a wood-engraved centerpiece. Cloth is a relatively recent addition to the art of bookbinding in Western book history. London publisher William Pickering and his binder Archibald Leighton are credited with developing the publisher's cloth binding in 1820 or '21, using a "fine-weave cotton fabric which was [...] smooth, shiny and easier to attach to a pasteboard," but the style did not truly catch on until the 1840s (Nash, 284). Book historian Paul W. Nash further notes that, from around 1824, publishers such as Pickering began offering books bound in "extra cloth boards," sometimes meaning full printed cloth as here (247). This production uses the printed cloth to reproduce a more elaborate and eye-catching version of the title page with the additional large wood engraving. A fantastic survival. 12mo, 7.5'' x 4.5''. Original full muslin printed to spine and front board. Uncut. Illustrated with engraved frontispiece and in-text wood engravings throughout. Title page printed in red and black. Publisher's catalogue at rear. [4], 432, [10] pages. Contemporary ink owner inscription to frontispiece verso. Marginal foxing to muslin and some light foxing to text, spine a bit toned.

Description
Marion, Illinois: n. p., 1876. First edition. Some small spots of abrasion to the cloth; some light browning in the endpapers from the binder's glue; in very good condition, quite tight and bright. Small 8vo (6.63 x 4.63 inches), original blind-stamped black cloth, gilt lettering, viii, 286 pages. "Here 'Big Jep,' 'Yaller Bill,' and Samuel R. were arrested. The Sherifff then went with a few men to 'Black Bill's,' and arrested him." This county history "is especially important because of its account of the 'bloody vendetta' which throws a strong light on social conditions in 'Egypt' " (Buck 262). Though in the broad outlines of its early chapters this would seem to be something of a standard county history, Erwin's work is remembered as the first contemporary account of "Bloody Williamson"--from an author who was himself the defense attorney for several suspects in the assassinations. Howes E173; Buck 1143.
