Description
8 ½" x 11 ¼" photo in a 13" x 16" frame. Signed and inscribed by Eleanor Roosevelt in black ink to bottom margin of photo: "To John M. Arnold / With best wishes / Eleanor Roosevelt". Sepia-toned portrait of Franklin Delano Roosevelt attributed to Leon Perskie, matted in white, in a wooden frame. Very good, with light age-soiling and a few small marks to photo. Overall, a pleasing photo signed by the famous First Lady. Anna Eleanor Roosevelt (1884-1962) is generally considered to be the most influential First Lady in United States history. During her husband Franklin Delano Roosevelt's presidency (1933-1945) she was indispensable as his "eyes and ears," and was a vocal advocate for the rights of African Americans, the poor, and other underrepresented groups. After FDR passed away, she passionately continued her advocacy work; she served on the UN Commission for Human Rights (1946-1952) and oversaw the drafting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1947-1948), the latter of which she regarded as her greatest achievement. In honor of her human rights efforts, President Truman called her "The First Lady of the World." . Signed. First Edition. Framed Photo. Very Good. 13" x 16".
