Description
(Furth im Wald): Vitalis, 2005. Hardcover. Fine. Five volumes (complete), octavo size, approx. 2300 pp., in publisher's slipcase, all text in German. Adalbert Stifter (1805-1868) was "notable for the vivid natural landscapes depicted in his writing and has long been popular in the German-speaking world" (n.b., quote from Wiki). This boxed set of hardcover books represents his collected works in five volumes: Witiko, Eine Erzählung; Der Nachsommer, Eine Erzählung; Die Mappe meines Urgroßvaters, Studien 1840-1841; Brigitta, Studien 1842-1845; and bunte Steine, Ein Festgeschenk. ___DESCRIPTION: Green cloth shelfbacks with paper-covered boards, each volume with a different small illustration on the front board, the shelfbacks with gilt lettering and publisher's device, each volume with a black-and-white drawing as a frontispiece, each volume with a green ribbon marker; octavo size (8 7/8" by 5 3/4"), pagination: Witco, 621 pp.; Nachsommer, 534 pp.; Die Mappe, 454 pp.; Brigitta, 456 pp.; and Steine, 279 pp. Please note that all text is in German. Housed in the publisher's slipcase of white cardboard covered with illustrated glossy green paper. ___CONDITION: Volumes all fine, the boards clean, straight corners without rubbing, strong, square text blocks with solid hinges, the interiors clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; all volumes still with that "tight", unread feel, crisp and as new. The publisher's slipcase has not fared as well, and it appears as though both the top and bottom were at some point split and re-glued, however, it remains sturdy and, while it has some wear, is mostly clean and bright. ___POSTAGE: Please note that this set is unusually heavy and additional postage will apply, please inquire for details. International customers, please also note that any taxes, duty, or tariffs charged by your country will, of necessity, be your responsibility. ___Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the ABAA, ILAB, and IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell.
