Twenty large 18 by 22 inch full color lithographs depicting the memorable events in the life of the popular, talented and heroic Eusebio Kino, SJ, sometimes called the most eminent and beloved Southwest pioneer. The images vary in size on the pages. Housed in a cream-colored cloth portfolio with the author and title printed on the upper board; the whole in the publisher's slipcase in matching cloth and with the author's name printed on the upper board. There is a four page description of the same size as the prints, with entries by Raymond Carlson of Arizona Highways; Carl Schaeffer Dentzel of the Southwest Museum; Thomas Hart Benton, Artists; and Ross Santee, Artist. The rear page contains an original full color illustration by DeGrazia captioned "Midnight Sketch Tucson Arizona USA 1962 3AM" and signed thereunder. In fine condition. The jubilee was a three-day event celebrating the completion railway lines and the beginning of service connecting Boston with Montreal and the Western United States. Daniel Webster's copy, with his bookplate on the front pastedown and his ownership signature on an endpaper (this book was published in early in 1852; Webster died in October); Webster took part in the opening day ceremonies, delivering a speech following that of President Fillmore. Sabin 6766. Label removed from front endpaper, resulting in a small hole, some foxing, especially to endpapers, but very good copy with a nice association. "A U.S. Postal Service worker in Chicago narrates his Ohio childhood, his education at Storer College and Howard University, his diversified occupations in Massachusetts and New York State, his travels in the U.S., and his life in Chicago after 1927. The last quarter of the book is a collection called "Essays on Interracial Understanding," in which the author combines his thoughts, observations, and experiences relating to racial discrimination (BRIGNANON 71).
