This crisis directly caused two new parties to be formed, the Tories, who opposed the exclusion, and the “Country Party,” which was soon renamed the Whigs. This letter to a ‘Gentleman in the Country,’ supports the exclusion. A Good copy of the first variant of this text, with the C in “country” on the title page larger than the other letters; the last line of p. 3 reads: “and a glorious Crown;” the last line of the first paragraph on p. 7 reads: “of an aftergaim.” Disbound.
