Description
London: Printed in the Year of, 1680. First Edition. Soft Cover. Good binding. A Letter... Concerning the Bill for Disabling the Duke of York to Inherit, or the ‘Exclusion Crisis,’ which were a series of bills aimed at excluding the Roman-Catholic Duke of York, the future King James II, from succession. This crisis directly caused two new parties to be formed, the Tories, who opposed the exclusion, and the “Country Party,” which was soon renamed the Whigs. This letter to a ‘Gentleman in the Country,’ supports the exclusion. A Good copy of the first variant of this text, with the C in “country” on the title page larger than the other letters; the last line of p. 3 reads: “and a glorious Crown;” the last line of the first paragraph on p. 7 reads: “of an aftergaim.” Disbound. [2], 21, [1] pp. (ESTC R14744). Good binding.
