Description
[Paris]: Kickshaws, 1985. Limited Edition. Wraps. Fine. One of 120 copies, oblong sixmo size, [24] pp. A lovely fine press book designed and written by John Crombie, who runs the Kickshaws Press with Sheila Bourne. Founded in 1979, the artwork (much of which is created by Bourne) is "designed to harmonize with the typography of the books and to illustrate, or decorate, the text", very much in the style of a French livres d'artiste (n.b., quote from Wiki). Per the colophon (at the end) this volume no. 24 of the edition of 120 copies; scarce in the marketplace, as of this writing we see only one copy online, located in France. ___DESCRIPTION: Bound in stiff paper wraps with a design in differing shades of grey (to black on the back) to form highly stylized curtains, the front wrap serving as title page, highly imaginative use of lettering in white against a background of ivory, the background slowly turning to darker shades of grey, and once black, the lettering out of focus until it is merely blobs on the final page (this work absolutely must be seen to be fully appreciated); oblong sixmo in size (6.5" wide by 6" high), unpaginated with twelve leaves. With a vernacular jacket by the prior owner of ivory paper, author and title hand-written on the spine. ___CONDITION: Volume fine, the wraps clean and unworn, the corners straight, a strong text block, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; clean, crisp, and as new. ___POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply as the standard does not always cover costs; please inquire for details. ___Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the ABAA, ILAB, and IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell.
