Very good
Description
Various places, 1985. Very good. 17¾" x 15½". Three large steel spiral binders, full leather over flexible card + 70 loose oversized contact sheets of photographs. Binders contain a total of 98 mylar sleeved leaves which hold hundreds of news and magazine clippings; images on contact sheets measure 2" x 3" and there are a total of 2,100. Binders very good with light wear; contents and photos generally very good plus or better. This is a monumental collection related to the American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors (AGJHS). According to Jewishvirtuallibrary.org: "Immediately after the World Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors in Israel in June 1981, a new organization was established to prepare for another event, the American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors in Washington, DC, in April 1983 . . . The event in the American capital attracted 20,000 survivors and their families, where for three days attendees commemorated the Holocaust, attended cultural events, met with politicians, including the president and vice president of the United States, attended seminars, listened to many speeches from survivors and their children, and lobbied for Israel. At the Capital Center, they were addressed by President Ronald Reagan and learned that an umbrella organization for American Jewish Holocaust survivors had been created in the name of the Gathering. The announcement was made by Benjamin Meed, a Warsaw Ghetto survivor, the driving force behind the gatherings, which started as a dream of Ernest Michel, a German survivor, when he was in Auschwitz. The mission of the organization is remembrance, education, and commemoration." The clippings come in three large books. The shortest, with ten leaves, contains articles leading up to 1983's Washington, D.C. gathering mentioned above. The longest book, with 58 leaves, covers every aspect of the 1983 gathering, with articles from numerous major newspapers and magazines. It was compiled by Beverly Jackson of Jackson/Summers Associates, a woman-owned public relations firm and presented to the aforementioned Benjamin Meed. The third book, with 30 leaves, involves the less-well-covered Inaugural Assembly of the American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors. That event was held in April 1985 at the Philadelphia Civic Center. Over 2000 photos deal exclusively with 1985's Inaugural Assembly and include shots in and around the Philadelphia Civic Center which hosted the event. There are many images of individual speakers including Elie Wiesel, shots of the "survivors village" and many show a march or marches. Others show attendees at various events and some of them are identified. We see people dancing the Hora, a candle lighting ceremony, a theater production and much more. A deep collection with numerous research avenues.

Description
Columbia, Mo, 1935. Very good.. [10] leaves, illustrated with thirty-one mounted photographs. Contemporary black cloth photograph album, string tied. Minor wear to edges. Some photographs missing. A nice album. A nicely-captioned vernacular photograph album assembled by Cassie Johnson of Columbia, Missouri. Johnson and a few friends have signed the front cover of the album, which is also captioned with "Columbia Mo" and "June 4, 1935." The photographs are also captioned in the same white ink and feature four photographs of young Cassie, along with numerous shots of her family members and friends, all of whom are identified by name. The portraits include two of Mary Jane Johnson, who is another of Cassie's friends who signed the cover of the album. One of the more interesting photographs features a woman named Barbara Johnson posed in her Sunday best but holding a long rifle. An interesting collection of original photos - the type of photographic record that unfortunately does not usually survive - featuring a young African American woman and her friends and family in rural Jim Crow Missouri.

Description
Boston: Little, Brown, and Company, 1930 First edition of this history of feminist literary tradition in the English language. Each chapter focuses on a key literary figure (Mary Wollestonecraft, the Brontës, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Rebecca West, and more). . Publisher's purple cloth. In the original pink dust jacket printed in purple. Octavo. With five plates, including a frontispiece of Mary Wollestonecraft. Inscribed by the author, "To my good friend, Andrew McCauce / In memory of many happy hours spent among his books" (January 1930). With one TLS and one ALS laid in, both discussing the present work, from Wellington to McCauce (in Wellington's letterhead envelope). A near fine copy in the near fine original dust jacket, with additional material laid in. The two letters discuss Wellington's writing of the present work, the positive reviews she received in the Boston Herald and other publications, and her friendship with Andrew McCauce (who, she writes, was the first to send her a letter her after the publication of the present work). In the TLS, she writes, "God knows how I managed to build that little book—chapter by chapter, sometimes not knowing whether I should ever be able to write the next…Already the next book is shaping up, and somehow I feel sure that it will be completed more quickly and easily than Women Have Told." In the ALS, Wellington notes that the present work would "head the woman section" of the next edition of Charles and Mary Beards' bibliography Rise of American Civilization. Amy Wellington was the editor of the magazine Current Opinion and a close friend of Charlotte Perkins Gilman. She edited Gilman's poetry and was an ardent promoter of her work. In an 1899 letter, Gilman praised Wellington's "pure love and discipleship" toward her after Wellington helped secure funding for one of Gilman's books. Women Have Told appears to be Wellington's only published book, though she also published articles in Woman Citizen and other periodicals. We could not locate any information about Andrew McCauce, though the letters from Wellington imply that he was a Boston writer or editor, possibly for the Herald.

Description
Lindsborg, KS: Bethany College, 1910. A 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" card with an image from a photograph of young women graduates in a field of daisies gathering the ephemeral flowers. The reverse has a stylized, art nouveau influenced daisy at left. The narrative describes the Bethany Campus as one of the beauty spots in "Little Lindsborg" the Park City of the Smoky Valley. It describes the flowers, the jewels of Nature, appearing in their glory during Commencement time, that period of commingled joy and regret for the parting which can be known only by college students, and do no wither away until the last lingering ones have left their Alma Mater..."This picture of the daisies has evidently touched a responsive chord in the memories of old Bethany students, for ten thousand have been called for and still more are demanded." Bethany College was established by Swedish Lutheran immigrants in 1881. A liberal arts college.
