Description
Crowne Point, Indiana, 1940s-2010s. A remarkable family heirloom reflecting the lifelong dedication of Phyllis (Dilling) Dixon, who sought to preserve the recipes that united generations of Indiana women. "In 1944 I started to copy some of mom's recipes. I put them in a loose leaf book. I kept adding and then, about 20 yrs, put some in this book. In 2012 the cover came loose so I put a new one over and added many more to the old ones." - Phyllis The compilation includes recipes gathered from church friends, neighbors, and relatives near and far alongside favorite popular cookbooks. Recipes from the family favorite cookbook. Entries are handwritten, typed, and mounted on the pages, featuring brand-name ingredients Velveeta, Lipton, Bisquick, Parkay, Betty Crocker, and many more. Among the many dishes are Chili for 100, Peanut Butter Balls (a family favorite), Grandma Dilling's Butterscotch Cookies, Yum Yum Coffee Cake, Corned Beef Brisket, each reflecting the era's home-cooking traditions. Numerous pages include affectionate annotations, such as "Mom always made these. Rodney always asked for these when he was in the army. One batch followed him all over Europe." Research indicates the family line ended with Phyllis's daughter, who had no children; her siblings likewise left no descendants.
