Description
A SCARCE AND IMPORTANT YIDDISH CHILDREN'S BOOK WITH POEMS BY ABRAHAM REISEN (1876 - 1953). REISEN'S POETRY IS ACCOMPANIED BY COLOR MODERNIST ILLUSTRATIONS BY VARIOUS JEWISH ARTISTS. Abraham Reisen was a "Yiddish Poet, short- story writer, playwright and editor. He was born in Russia, travelled to Minsk, Warsaw, Krakow, and Berlin - until he came to New York in 1914.His poetry, "while having an understated romanticism and melancholy irony, a proportion of his work criticizes the poverty and social problems of the day" (Dan Wyman, 2012).Each page has a poem framed by modernist color illustrations (usually one or two colors) by various artists in brown, yellow, orange-red, green and black. The pictorial boards of the cover have age-darkened light brown stains but the illustration "comes through". The back cover also has light brown stains - especially at the bottom edge - this may be a water stain, edges and corners rubbed, green spine is in good shape. Blank eps are clean but paper at inner hinge has a light break - but it is tight. Internally the book it is in very clean and tight condition. Published on sturdy paper stock and the illustrated poems show very nicely.Condition of cover is Good +, the text is in VG condition.ABRAHAM REISEN CAME FROM A PROMINENT FAMILY OF WRITERS IN HEBREW AND YIDDISH.
