Description
GERTRUDE VANDERBILT WHITNEY (1875-1942). Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney was born into the wealthy Vanderbilt family and married into the Whitney family. She was a sculptor, art patron, and collector, founding the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1931. Her wealth afforded her the opportunity to become a patron of the arts, devoting herself to the advancement of women in art.Photography album. 1946. No place [likely Old Westbury, New York]. A black and white photography album containing several dozen photographs of Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitneys farm. The crimson leather cover is stamped Whitney Farm 1946 Vol. 1. The photographs are linked so that they can be pulled out of the album in a long series. The images are in fine condition and the spine has some wear. A fine peek at Gilded Age life.
