Description
Philadelphia: J.W. Moore,, 1851.. Although this work was published anonymously, Hinckley is listed as the illustrator. Whether or not he also wrote the text is debatable. Unlike many drawing books of the period that focus exclusively on perspective and the empirical side of painting, this one considers contrasting use of color, the formation of figures, etc., with an eye towards creating certain aesthetic effects with one's technique. Original green cloth, stamped in blind and gilt, spine gilt. Corners bit bumped. Light scattered foxing. Very good. SCHIMMELMAN, AMERICAN IMPRINTS ON ART 259. DREPPERD, AMERICAN DRAWING BOOKS, p.17.
