Description: Washington [PA]: Printed for the Author, 1806. 144pp. Disbound with scattered foxing. Dedication [page 3] trimmed closely in the right margin, costing several letters. Good+. Birch writes from "Point-Pleasant, near Washington, Pennsylvania, 3d October, 1805." He bitterly resents the "Inquisition" and "persecution" inflicted upon him by the Presbytery of Ohio, which refused to license him. He accuses the Presbytery of "falsehood, injustice, and the breach of those sacred ties of public faith." Courts and church officials, "from the lowest to the highest," have "shut the door against all legal redress," and left Birch alone to expose the injustice in this public appeal. An Irish immigrant ordained at Belfast, Birch is the more deeply distressed, because America is "destined by Providence to reform the world." He presents numerous biblical and mystical prophecies to that effect. Addressing the Jews, not as "incorrigible infidels" but as still "covenanted people," he urges their conversion to the Christian Church. Beginning at page 31, Birch writes his autobiography and his collision with the Ohio Presbytery in numbing detail. "Presbyterianism in Washington County, Pennsylvania at the beginning of the nineteenth century comprehended revivalists and critics of revivalism... The most acidic criticism flowed from the pen of an exiled Irish minister, Thomas Ledlie Birch, who seemingly could not adapt his particular brand of old-country Presbyterianism to American evangelicalism." A trade catalogue of Russian liquors, issued by the Russian Ministry of Food. The spirits are of all types, with a wide range of vodkas, but also a rich variety of cordials, brandies and dessert liqueurs. The handsome color plates all stand out for their single color backgrounds, and the printing process would appear to have been a hybrid combining photolithography and lithography and then colored. Whatever one makes of the Soviet cultural landscape in general, it did attain high standards in some fields, and in a modest way, this trade catalogue is a proud reflection of its aesthetic achievement. Clean and bright within. Textured wrappers with debossed copper lettering and gilt ruling; lightly soiled and with wear and some separation at spine. Good. [OCLC locates no copies].

The Fundamento de Esperanto ("Foundation of Esperanto") is a book by L. L. Zamenhof, first published in the spring of 1905. On August 9, 1905 it was made the official source for the language by the fourth article of the Declaration of Boulogne at the first World Congress of Esperanto in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France: "The only basis of the Esperanto language binding on all Esperantists, which no one has the right to change, is the little work Foundation of Esperanto. If anyone deviates from the rules and models given in the said work, he can never justify himself with the words "thus desires or advises the author of Esperanto". Each Esperantist has the right to express any idea, which cannot be conveniently expressed by the material found in the Foundation of Esperanto, in such a manner as he finds most correct, as is done in every other language. However, for the unity of the language for all Esperantists it is recommended to imitate as much as possible the style that is found in the works of the creator of Esperanto, who has worked the most for and in Esperanto and knows best its spirit.” It is considered the only obligatory authority over Esperanto and is thus unchangeable.The Fundamento consists of four parts: a Foreword (Antaûparolo), a Grammar (Gramatiko), a collection of exercises (Ekzercaro) and a "Universal Dictionary" (Universala Vortaro).
