Description
Fox sketched his classic character, Skipper, with a man in a bathtub signing his name. On a 4 x 5 1/2 inch album page, Fox has first signed his name, "Fontaine Fox," then explained, "This is probably the first autograph ever signed in a Bath tub!" Fox was a cartoonist and illustrator best known for the Toonerville Folks comic panel that appeared from 1913 to 1955 in 250 to 300 newspapers across the US. It is about a small town which seemed to operate in its own bubble. The gentle humor of the feature dealt with the antics of the various citizens and featured quasi-realistic situations. It was one of the most popular comics in the World War I era.
