SIGNED by Kippenberger to rear wrapper and dated in the year of publication. One of Martin Kippenberger's most perceptive—and beloved—artist's books, fully-illustrated after black-and-white street photographs that he captured during his travels through Brazil and Spain. His documentation of uncanny moments from the built environment would signal a development in his own sculptural practice, with his first street lamps executed in the same year. The wrappers represent an inversion of the unmistakable cover design from Merve Verlag, with whom the book was originally supposed to be published, as something of a sequel to Kippenberger's earlier Frauen. (Koch 63).

London, Edinburgh & Boston: T. N. Foulis, (1914). An octavo of 103 pp. with eight color plates by Alfred Rawlings mounted on heavy stock, and 36 drawings by Warrington Hogg of notable sundials. White paper over boards with marvelous cover illustrations in vivid colors by Jessie M. King. Top edge green. A companion volume to Corners Of Grey Old Gardens, this is considered by many to one of the finest examples of Jessie King's inimitable style. Having become quite scarce of late, particularly in the First Edition, this is a handsome and satisfying copy. There is a modest contemporary signature in the corner of the front pastedown and some very minor soiling and wear. A small bit of old cello tape is at the bottom of the spine ( 1/2" x 1.5"), not particularly detracting. Offsetting from paper on the front free endpaper. Overall, the book requires few apologies, with the boards and gilt exceptionally bright and the contents clean and free from foxing. White 111.
