An important anthology of medicine and chemistry taken from Medical Essays and Obs. published in Edinburgh journal between 1733 - '44. Porterfield's illustrated essay on the nature of vision and physiology of the eye appeared in this manner for the first time. The essay is over 100pp. in length and precedes his book on the topic (G-M #1484.2) by 15 yrs.. Accompanying the Porterfield is another notable paper by Munro discussing several new surgical instruments and their use. See G-M # 1484.2; Blake p.296.
