Description
London: Edward & Charles Dilly, 1773-'77. First Edition.. Full contemporary calf.. Very good; the front joint is strained.. 8vo, xx, [1] - 353, [1 - errata]; [2], [1] - 88 pp. + 2 copper engraved plates. A classic of the obstetrics literature. The book is filled with practical suggestions originating with the author. White made substantial headway towards the prevention of puerperal fever by insisting on the absolute cleanliness and isolation of infected patients. The book was translated into French and German and had an American printing as well. The original work of White is offered with the rare supplementary appendix issued separately years later. The appendix offers reflections of the author on his own work, further case studies, and an inquiry into the nature and origin of puerperal fever. G-M #6270 not noting the appendix.
