Description
1970. [CREATIVE PRINT MOVEMENT] KANAMORI Yoshio. KOZAN. Nihon Aishokai, Shōwa 45, signed by Kanamori. Number 94 of 150 copies. Huge western bound folio, 45.9 x 31.7 cm. Each of the 15 color woodblock illustrations is double page - and are in consequence remarkably large and therefore difficult to print. Quite a tribute to the ongoing skill of the woodblock printers in Japan, even 25 years after the end of the war. Very fine condition throughout, in the dustwrapper. In a wooden shipping enclosure with the original purchaser's address in Hokkaido on it. A lovely book in beautiful condition. Signed by Kanamori.

Description
London: W.H. Smith & Son, N.d. (ca 1914). Lithograph in colors, 77cm x 50cm (ca. 30" x 20"). Mild toning in margins, with subtle repair to closed tears; Near Fine. Professionally mounted on archival linen. An anti-Progressive satirical image, using a crash-landed bi-plane to symbolize the recklessness of Asquith's Liberal government; the unfortunate banged-up chap at center appears to be a caricature of David Lloyd George, Asquith's Chancellor of the Exchequer (and later Prime Minister). The artist is unidentified, but possibly Edward Huskinson, long-time editor of The Tattler and a popular Conservative cartoonist of the period.

Original white paper-coverd boards with black lettering on cover and spine, in original photo-illustrated dustjacket, black lettering on spine. 2 frontispiece photographs. Signed "Roger Ballen" on title page. This work was first published in 1994 in Rivonia, South Africa by William Waterman. "For almost two decades Roger Ballen, an American, has been photographing in the South African countryside, searching for aesthetic symbols to convey a sense of the place and the people... The images, though devoid of excess, stripped to their essence, are deptively simple." (Publisher) "Platteland is an altogether extraordinary book, the most impressive sequence of portraits I've seen in years. Roger Ballen has used the power of photographyto instruct, to shock, and to discomfit with an exemplary integrity of purpose." (Susan Sontag).

Karl Baedeker (1801-1959) was born in Essen, and attended Heidelberg University. His family was involved in the publishing and bookselling business, and around 1828 he entered the travel guide business. Baedeker created a different kind of travel book that opened up tourism for a new class of travelers, by guiding the tourist to the principal attractions in a country or area. This information was often edited by Baedeker himself, and sons would take over and expand the business after his death. This edition provides considerable information on Spain and Portugal, and contains many folding maps. ODB.
