Description
n.p.: Aluminum Company of America, (1964). Here's an interesting diversion - a puff piece by Alcoa on the marine uses of aluminum. Interesting in that, although aluminum in salt water doesn't rust, it is subject to corrosion in proximity to other metals. Alcoa's publicity people work deftly around these difficulties, citing more than half a century of aluminum vessels, from the naphtha launch "Zephir" in 1890 to the "Navy's newest aluminum vessel, a 22 1/2 ton Hydroskimmer, cruises at 70 knots while air-supported 1 1/2 ft above the ocean." With some groovy 60s - style line illustrations by American artist and book binder Sid Neff. After the fun stuff has been presented, the second half of the book is devoted to the technical aspects of aluminum at sea. Fine condition in publisher's illustrated boards.. 27.5 cm. 73, (2) pp. b/w line ills and plates
