Description
Little, 1906. WARD, A.B. THE SAGE BRUSH PARSON. Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1906. 12mo., decorative green cloth, stamped in blue and off-white. First Edition. Alice Bailey Ward was an essayist, novelist and poet. This novel, which begins in the mining camps of Nevada, is roughly based on the life of itinerant Methodist preacher George Wharton James. Wharton served parishes in Nevada and southern California. He was defrocked for adultery but later reinstated. Signed presentation from Ward on the front endpaper: "To Edith Brewster Evans from her friend `A.B. Ward.' In memory of a `tiding over.' The Penhurst, April 5, 1906." Evans was a booklover and collector and founded the Clemonton, New Jersey library in 1925. Very Good (covers bright with a few very light spots; contents clean & tight). $175.00.
