Includes sections on art, architecture, music, and literature, with contributions by Laurence Binyon, Laurence Housman, Lucas Cranach, D. G. Rossetti, Edward Burne-Jones, Charles Meryon, and William Nicholson, among others. No. 2 contains the first appearance in print of "The Desire of Man and of Woman," a poem by W. B. Yeats [Wade p. 352]. A New Series began the following year and ran for 7 issues into 1900.

[48pp.]. Title in red, yellow and black. Text and decorations in several colors. Handset French Elzevir and Jenson type, as well as samples of nineteenth century type. Printed on English handmade paper. Black cloth-backed decorated boards, spine label printed in gilt. Lightest of wear to top corner, else a very fine copy. Each of the 18 fonts displayed is identified; the captions provide the historical reference and date of the particular font's use. Each is printed in, decorated, or illustrated in color.
