Description
1865. Very Good. Baggs, Isham. A.L.s. to Latimer Clark. London, July 19, 1865. 4pp. 201 x 127 mm. Small holes punched in upper margin, traces of mounting present. Provenance: Latimer Clark. Requesting Clark's help in testing a telegraphic device invented by Baggs: "We have just tried a patented telegraph instrument of mine thro' the Atlantic Cable: it gave about 300 indications per minute, but upon connecting it with the earth the action entirely ceased. We want nothing but intensity, and that in no great degree-say 40 or 50 cells Danniells. They only gave us 20 cells! Whereas I believe that under Mr. Glass's contract the use of 500 cells is the limitation. . . . " Origins of Cyberspace 114. .
