The Library of the National Maritime Museum originated from the printed books and atlases, which formed part of the celebrated A.G.H. Macpherson collection. The library now contains over 50,000 volumes, covering every aspect of maritime affairs. This 7-volume set is a short-title catalogue of its contents, arranged by subject. Volume 1 lists all printed books in the library concerned with Voyages and Travel, including all accessions up till the end of June 1967. Volume 2 lists the printed books concerned with collective and individual biography, the former including an important selection on Navy Lists, with all accessions up to the end of May 1968 included. Volume 3 displays the skill and versatility of the mapmaker's art. The catalogue has been arranged into national groups according to cartographic school. The basis of Volume 4 is the celebrated Pirate Library formed by the late Dr. Philip Gosse. All accessions up to the end of 1970 have been included. Volume 5 is concerned with Naval History from the Middle Ages to 1815, with all accessions up to the end of June 1974 included. An impressive and comprehensive set of books.
