Very Good. 1st limited ed. 1/20 lettered copies aside from an edition of 400 numbered copies, printed on Verge Holland watermarked handmade paper, with 91 original full-page & smaller etchings by Lucien Madrassi (five more than in the ordinary limited ed.). Thick 4to, buff wraps, text untrimmed, loose tissue guards. Wraps in poor condition (detached, worn, repaired), but text very clean & etchings sharp & crisp throughout. An account of elderly rural & urban Jews in Poland & Russia after WW I, by French brothers from their travels.

Printed on a turn-of-the-century Challenge-Gordon press. Spanish text handset in Baskerville and Delphian types. Presentation inscription, signed by the author. Presents the Spanish text and English translation of one of the oldest manuscripts in an Upper California Indian tongue. The Elements of Christian Doctrine, the Form for Confession, etc. was written by Fray Juan Cortés in 1798 in the Indian dialect most frequently spoken at the mission, with an accompanying Spanish translation. Quite scarce and an important source book..
