Description
Vienna: Gilhofer, 1889. Very good. Wraps. 4to. 5-3/4 by 7-3/4 inches. 8pp pamphlet; woodcut illustration to first page. Likely one of 100 copies printed on old paper from the only known copy of the 1492 original, owned by Julius Krone and now lost. The original is one of several publications printed in 1492 or shortly thereafter regarding the Sternberg executions; this one printed by Matthaeus Brandis pamphlet, however, bears a complex woodcut showing the Host desecration. The text is in a combination of Low German and Latin. Edges worn, stain and an abrasion on the front page else in very good condtion. Bound with string, probably the original binding. The 1889 printing orignally had the following description: Niederdeutscher Druck von Mathäus Brandis in Lübeck um 1492. Photolithographische Reproduction. [The preface is signed Dr. F. M.]. Housed in a quarter leather chemise with marbled paper sides. See ISTC is00790260. A facsimile of this copy was issued in a limited edition in 2009.
