Description
Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corporation and Aspen Productions, 1968. Softcover. Near Fine. Screenplay. Quarto. 141pp. Brandbound in printed blue studio wrappers marked "Final Screenplay." Title page is present and notes: "Final February 26, 1969." General wear to the extremities, mostly at the yapped foredge which has multiple creases, near fine. The Academy Award-winning screenplay for the black comedy *MASH* written by Ring Lardner, Jr. and based on Richard Hooker's novel of the same name, which followed a group of doctors stationed with a mobile army hospital during the Korean War. The film was directed by Robert Altman and starred Elliott Gould and Donald Sutherland as surgeons negotiating the absurdities of war, which resonated with audiences during its release at the height of the Vietnam conflict. Though it was a difficult production with apparent friction between Altman, Lardner and many of the actors, the final film was an instant classic and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture and awarded the Palme d'Or at Cannes.

Description
New York: New York Shakespeare Festival, 1971. Draft script for the 1971 Broadway play, seen here under the working title "Bones." Single annotation in manuscript ink on the title page, noting copy No. 92. Laid in with the script are a two-page program with two tickets stapled on the front wrapper, and a xerographically duplicated "New York Times" review of the off-Broadway staging of the play, dated November 9, 1971. A pitch black comedy, about a heavily traumatized Vietnam veteran who arrives home after having lost his eyesight in the war, and finds himself completely alienated from his seemingly picture-perfect family. The second play in playwright David Rabe's Vietnam trilogy, following "The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel" (1971) and preceding "Streamers" (1976). The play made its debut at Villanova University (where Rabe was then a graduate student) in 1969, and was later moved to Joseph Papp's Public Theater in 1971, running for 121 performances. It debuted on Broadway shortly after, at the John Golden Theatre on March 1, 1972, where it ran for 246 performances. Nominated for three Tony Awards, winning one for for Best Play. Black titled Studio Duplicating Service wrappers, with credits for playwright David Rabe. Title page present, dated 7/71, with credits for playwright David Rabe. 116 leaves, with last page of text numbered 2-53. Xerographic duplication, rectos only. Pages Near Fine, wrapper Very Good plus, bound with two gold brads.

Description
Rare Photography Broadside for a Parisian photography studio operated by Allophones Lionel who was active in the 1860s (according to Getty Images). Lionel advertises a guarantee that no photographer had offered: a proof - "epreuve" - of the image before the photograph is printed, and if the client does not like the image, the photographer will take a second photograph and offer a second proof for no additional charge. A caricature of the famed French photographer Nadar appears to sit on a camera in the broadside's highly decorative design. The sheet measures 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches and is normally aged with slight chip in upper left corner, else very good condition. Photographs of individuals in the carte-de-vi site style established in the 1850's became more popular in the 1860's with many photographers competing for clients. This richly designed broadside must have appealed to new customers. We have not found another example of this broadside. "Photography Universal Du XIX Cecile," Paris, ca 1860s.

Description
New York: Published by Henry Bill Sold Only by Subscription, 1853. Second edition. Forty-eight plates. 224,[1] pp. 8vo. Original gilt cloth. Extremities lightly worn and repaired. Bookplate on front flyleaf. Light soiling and foxing. A good, sound copy. Second edition. Forty-eight plates. 224,[1] pp. 8vo. The second edition of Letts' CALIFORNIA ILLUSTRATED..., a vivid narrative of California mining life, published at the height of the gold fever. "Letts produced one of the best accounts of gambling, violence, and life in the mines" - Kurutz. Particularly valuable for the attractive, accurate illustrations drawn by Cooper and lithographed by Cameron. The book illustrates scenes across the Isthmus of Panama, in Sacramento and the gold fields, in Santa Barbara, and across Mexico and Panama. Peters remarks: "Cooper has left us a pungent, graphic record of the long trip to and from the gold fields, of the young cities he found mushrooming there, of booming San Francisco and Sacramento, of the lovely vestiges of the mission-founding padres in early California, and of the actual life of the forty-niners, with its flavor of roughing it, humor, hope, and all the luring magic of the yellow streak." Cameron, the brilliant hunchback lithographer who was addicted to drink, deserves much of the credit for the Currier & Ives prints. Hill 1016; Cowan p.390; Howes L300, "aa" ; Sabin 40723; Peters, America on Stone, pp.130-31, 147; Peters, California on Stone, pp.97, 103-5; Wheat Gold Rush 125 (ref); Kurutz 398e
