Description
[Princeton, New Jersey: Princeton University,] March 1969 Pale bule printed paper wrappers. . Octavo. With a full-page table comparing educational models. Fading and light foxing to front cover. Very bright and clean throughout. A very good copy of an uncommon item reporting the results of a study on how Princeton University could implement their decision to admit women. A committee of Princeton students, faculty, and administrators considered five models for incorporating women into the college: (1) "Separate educational institutions, joined by a 'treaty' which makes possible some sharing of facilities and faculty"; (2) "Two institutions with separate formal identities, but with one faculty identified with the men's college"; (3) "A separate women's residential college (or zone) within the University"; (4) "A single institution, with an established ratio of women to men students, but with no separate residential college"; and (5) "A single institution with no established ratio of women to men students." The present item summarizes the characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages of the five models. Princeton began admitting undergraduate women in the fall of 1969 under the fourth proposed model. The model allowed women to choose between living on campus in designated spaces (women-only dorms or women's sections in larger dorms) or living off campus and between eating and socializing in communal spaces with men or in their own dorms and private residences. The text reads: "This model avoids any connotations of 'segregation' and thus is attractive on grounds of principle to those who believe it is important that men and women students learn how to know each other simply as 'people,'" (p. 9).

Description
New York: William Faro, Inc.. Near Fine in Very Good+ dj. 1933 (c.1931). 3rd printing. Hardcover. [just a touch of shelfwear, modest age-toning to edges of text block; the jacket is lightly edgeworn, and has some random spotting on the rear panel]. Or, not. A "biography" (if we may call it that) of the woman who purportedly reigned as Pope of Rome for a couple of years during the 9th Century, but whose actual existence had long been a matter of dispute in church circles, and which is today now widely regarded as a myth. So basically what we have here is "historical fiction" with not much actual history underpinning it, although the author (rather grandiosely claimed in the jacket blurb as to be "probably the greatest student of Christianity in America") gives it the old college try: Part One of the book, "Pope Joan in History," purports to demonstrate "that Pope Joan was a definite historical figure, whose existence is as definitely established as that of any of her contemporaries." (Basically it runs through the evidentiary chronicle, then posits a conspiracy theory about the "smothering" and "suppression" of the truth.) Part Two, "The Life of Pope Joan" -- by far the largest part of the book -- is a pretty much made-up-from-whole-cloth account (with lots of dialogue) of Joan's life from conception to death (in childbirth, of all things). And just the bring the whole story home, I guess, there's a 4-page Appendix explaining the origin and playing rules of "The Card Game, Pope Joan." (Although it's tempting to believe that Wood -- famously the co-author, with his wife Gloria Goddard, of "The Complete Book of Games" -- just made that up, too, it was in fact a thing: per Wikipedia, "a once popular Victorian family game....an 18th-century English round game of cards for three to eight players.") .

Description
Leipzig: C. F. Peters [PN 7735, 6239, 8467], 1899. 3 volumes bound together. Folio. Quarter dark red leather with marbled boards, raised bands on spine in decorative compartments gilt, marbled edges and endpapers. Vol. 1: [i] (titling within decorative border printed in sepia), 2 (contents), 3-117, [i] (blank); Vol. 2: 1f. (title), 3 (contents), 4-106, [i] (blank) pp.; vol. 3: [i] (title), 2 (contents), 3-96 pp. The title of Vol. 3 lacks the printed note "Neu revidirte Ausgabe" and has the plate number in its place; the other two titles have the plate number to the foot of the page; all three titles are otherwise identical. Oval handstamp of "Cercle de l'Union artistique Bibliothèque" with manuscript number "20683" to center to front endpaper; without manuscript number also to head of title of vol. 1 and to verso of rear endpaper. Slight loss to upper edge of front endpaper. Uniform light browning; title leaf of Vol. 1 minimally foxed. The first Peters edition of the complete piano works (vol. 1-2: second issue). Later Peters editions use the same plates and title design, but they spell the name of Louis Koehler with an Umlaut and the word "Concerte" as "Konzerte"; instead of Rich[ard] Schmidt, they list August Ruthardt as co-editor; and their contents pages are re-engraved, with some including incipits. There is also an edition in one volume using the same plates and the title page of the present volumes 1 and 2, but the contents are arranged in a completely different order (sonatas coming last); the uniform plate number is 6176.
