London: Printed by M. W. for H. Mortlock, 1679. Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo (174 x 110mm). [24], 550pp, [1], ads. 3 pages of manuscript titled "Morning Hymn" and "Evening Hymn" at preliminary leaves and several marginal inscriptions on verso of advertisement leaf. Modern half python by J. Franklin Mowery, title gilt to spine on label; (prelims. and title reinforced, some slight dampstains, lightly toned, pp.177-192 slightly offset, worm hole on pp.117- 240 in lower margin; extremities lightly rubbed). First Edition. This work, attributed to Edward Stillingfleet, Bishop of Worcester, British theologian and scholar. He was considered an outstanding preacher as well as a strong polemical writer defending Anglicanism. T.G. is Thomas Godden (1624-1688), the English courtier implicated in the "Titus Oates" plot.
