Description
SHAW, GEORGE BERNARD. Autograph postcard with printed letterhead, signed with initials "GBS" to Alfred Feuer Jr (USA) discussing children and the transmissibility of genius. 1 page, 12mo; slight creasing to lower right corner, addressed in holograph on verso. Welwyn, dated 11 March 1947. A brilliant example of Shaw's wit and analysis: "The fathers and sons of geniuses are mostly nobodies. Human stock, like agricultural, needs fallow as well as foison. Adopted children are always available; and they are the best loved and cared for. My works are my children. I should be too much occupied with them to look after the commonplace sort properly. Genius in a family is a nuisance."

Description
Very good; seals in tact; there is some marginal "splintering" to two of the views.. Oblong glass plates measuring appx. 60 x 130 mm. sandwiching the film based autochromes. Each is neatly sealed around the edges. Each photograph of a single stereoview measures appx. 58 x 63 mm. The color is very good throughout. These were not commercial products, but the work of an individual. A unique set of autochromes - unidentified - of an English country house garden in summer bloom, ca 1920. The views are well composed and expressive. The gardens were the epitome of the "effortless" natural composition of the grounds so much admired in the English country house garden of Edwardian England. There is no indication of place, date or maker. See Lavedrine, The Lumiere Autochrome ....

Near Fine in Near Fine dj [nice tight copy, faint yellowing of page edges, small dented spot on fore-edge; jacket has one small tear at upper front corner, mild chipping at spine ends]. "When [the author] was editor for a well-known television series, 'The Defenders,' he found it impossible to win approval for a script that embodied the central thesis of a Supreme Court decision. 'Far too controversial' was the network's verdict. Ths persuaded [the author] that more should be known about the operations of our highest tribunal and how its decisions are arrived at." This spurred him on to two years of research for this book, detailed in a four-page publisher's publicity release, laid in to this very nice copy of his second novel. ****NOTE that additional postage charges will be assessed for international shipping of this moderately heavy book; if this concerns you, please contact us for a shipping quote before placing your order.
