So Tuesday, May 5 - I think we will be Me - Nadia - Wanda, so 3. We should plan on 3 rooms or at least 3 beds...We'll...come by the farm probably Sunday...." He ends, "A Tois de mois 3, " and signs, "F. Leger," drawing a line around his signature starting from the "r" and ending in what could be the French Flag outlined. Leger refers to his film, "Ballet Mecanique," produced 1923 - 24. He wrote and co-directed this Surrealist movie with help form Man Ray and co-director, American filmmaker, Dudley Murphy (1897-1968). The American composer George Antheil (1900- 59) composed the score. The letter is written In French, 2 pages on one folded sheet, 8vo, April, 25, 1952. In addition to other works in 1952, a pair of Léger murals was installed in the General Assembly Hall of the United Nations headquarters in New York City.

Description
Kent writes a discerning letter identifying the poems which "roused" in him a "deep emotion." to an English professor about verses he illustrated. "With the exception of 'The Hunting of the Snark,' the 'Bab Ballads,' and such things which I have over and over again thoroughly enjoyed, I must say that 'enjoyment' is not the term for the deep emotion...that greater poetry has roused in me, I am not telling you what poems I have enjoyed, but what poems have most moved me...." He continues to reply to his correspondent's request to suggest a poem for a book. "...there is little sense in mentioning "The Odyssey,' or even 'The Ancient Mariner,'...his final words to the Wedding Guest, beginning, 'Farewell, farewell, But this I tell....'and continuing to the end. These last stanzas, following all the poem that has preceded, are to me a deeply moving and convincing a creed for living as I know...." He signs above the typed name, "Rockwell Kent." Fine insight into Kent's literary tastes. Paper clip rust stain on verso shows slightly on upper left margin. Though Kent is better associated with his illustrations for Melville's "Moby Dick" and Voltaire's "Candide," his corespondent has apparently made an intriguing request of the artist that he consider his illustrations for "Bab Ballads" by W. S. Gilbert, and Lewis Carroll's "Hunting the Snark.

Description
Newburyport, [Mass.], 1822. A printed, single-leaf bill of fare, (15.5 x 9 cm.), with price, date and innkeeper's name in manuscript. Typographical border. Ink note to verso. This bill of fare contains the usual list of possible expenses for the traveler staying at this inn or tavern: Board, Breakfast, Dinner, Supper, Lodging, Liquor, Wine, Cigars, Horsekeeping, Horsebating [sic], and Provender. The charge, for "$1.50" was billed to a "Capt. L[xx]" by the manager, J. Gilman, Jr. The Merrimack Hotel was built in a three-story brick house purchased in 1813 by Benjamin Hale. The house, at the corner of Harris and State streets, had been the mansion house of General Peabody. It was fitted for travelers and a portrait of General James Wolfe was painted by Moses Cole for use as a sign. Some creases and light paper discoloration; unevenly cut. Very good. [OCLC locates another bill of fare for the Merrimack, dated 1816 (Peabody Essex)].

Description
[Syracuse?, 1871. 7pp. Original printed wrappers [lightly dustsoiled and worn]. Caption title [as issued]. Stitched. Light tan and scattered foxing. Good+ or so. A representative of the Salt Company of Onandaga, the "Great Salt Monopoly" of which Barker was Secretary, demands a fair hearing, angrily protesting "when you hold us up to public odium as a monopoly." The Company admits to economies of scale, attempts to expand its market, stabilize prices, and "carry the salt as near as possible to the consumers." These are good business practices. The Company explains its costs, risks, and practical problems. OCLC locates only the copy at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library. OCLC 47439962 [1]. Not in Sabin, Eberstadt, Decker.
