Description
1963. Shepherdson, John C. (1926-2015); H. E. Sturgis. Computability of recursive functions. Offprint from Journal of the Association for Computing Machinery 10 (1963). 217-255pp. 248 x 175 mm. Without wrappers; stapled. Some soiling, wear and creasing. Good to very good. First Edition, Offprint Issue. "Shepherdson was a British mathematician who worked in ring theory and mathematical logic . . . His interest in recursive functions led to many other papers on the topic, in particular his joint paper with Howard Sturgis entitled "Computability of recursive functions" (1963). This paper contained an idea similar to a Turing machine, now known as the Shepherdson-Sturgis Register machine. In many ways this is easier to work with than a Turing machine and has proved an important idea" (MacTutor). "John Shepherdson - Biography." Maths History (web). Accessed 22 Dec. 2023. From the library of Martin Davis. .

Description
Bern: Drud von Suter & Lierow, 1890. Fifth edition. 299pp. Sextodecimo [16 cm] Full leather with decorative gilt stamping and title to front board. Decorative blind stamping to rear board. A.E.G. Crown of rubbed backstrip bumped and pulled. Extremities of boards rubbed. Internally clean. J. M. Sjodahl was the editor of this rare work that contains 153 hymns, 128 which are supplied with melodies. Apparently, some of the tunes were original compositions of Sjodahl himself. Several hymns of this edition were derived from the LDS Psalmody of the preceding year. This work also contains five hymns by L. F. Monch: three on the subject of the gathering to Utah, a gospel song on the parable of the sower, and the stirring hymn of the Restoration, "Sehet ihr Volker, Licht bricht heran," which has been a favorite of German-speaking Saints for over a century. We locate four institutional holdings (all in Utah). Rare. Flake/Draper 1832. Jacobs 664.H.
