Description
Montgomery Ward & Co., Inc, 1949. Original wraps. Near Fine. A gorgeous copy of this post-War celebration of color, in this lavish 1949 Montgomery Ward catalog showcasing a dazzling array of wallpaper patterns and colors. The supply of "dyes, inks and paper stock" which were in short supply during the war were back in abundance by the late 40s and are here on full display. On each recto a wallpaper sample (almost all in vibrant hues), on each facing verso a precise desciption of the sample. The catalog has held up very nicely to boot and is crisp, well-preserved and Near Fine in its decorative wrappers. Just a touch of very faint wear along the spine ends and one microscopic chip (the size of a grain of sand) at the front panel's lower-tip. Internally, clean as could be, with no writing or markings of any kind. Octavo, 77 separate samples. Very attractive and presentable, one of the great post-War catalogues in the decorative arts.

Description
Stated First Edition; A Near Fine book in a Near Fine dust jacket. SIGNED by Ms. Du Maurier on the half title page. An outstanding copy of this novel, very scarce signed, originally begun by Du Maurier's friend and mentor Arthur Quiller-Couch, then completed by Du Maurier at the request of Quiller-Couch's daughter; Du Maurier is of course the author of the classic novels "Rebecca", "My Cousin Rachel", etc. This copy is in near fine condition with a square tight binding, bright blue spine lettering, and clean, white pages throughout; light foxing is present to the page edges and paste downs with a larger area of foxing to the epigraph page (possibly from a card or bookmark), else fine. Housed in a clean, crisp, and bright dust jacket that shows only mild rubbing to the edges, a small, mostly inconspicuous stain to the front panel, and some mild foxing to the spine, back panel, and flap edges. Overall, a beautiful example of this title, probably the nicest signed copy currently available in the marketplace. A nice edition to the Du Maurier collector's library or English Literature collection. Not remaindered, not price clipped ($4.50 intact), and not ex-library; protected in a Mylar sleeve and will ship in a sturdy box.

Garden City: Doubleday, Page and Company, 1912. First Edition. Fine/Very Good +. A Fine copy of the book that has been exquisitely preserved in its original dust jacket. Dust jacket is Very Good +, with a large chip at the base of the spine and price-clipped, but otherwise in excellent condition. A rare survivor. Kipling's compilation of songs from his various children's books. This is the authoritative guide to Kipling's charming poetic works; and it provides an opportunity for readers to indulge in nursery rhymes and songs outside of their narrative contexts. Songs from Books has become a perennial family bedtime favorite. Fine in Very Good + dust jacket.

Etc.; Objectionable Modes of Treatment in the Cure of Putrid-Tending Infectious Fevers, Etc. THE AUTHOR CONCLUDES: "I cannot resist asserting, that all those practitioners, who still continue to follow the enumerated errors of the writers, who have hitherto appeared on the subject, must practise physic to the injury, and not for the salvation of human beings." BIOGRAPHY PUBLISHED BY THE ROYAL COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS, 1878: WILLIAM ROWLEY (1743 - 1806) was bred a surgeon; and in that capacity was in the king's service from 1760 to 1765; and was present at the siege of Belleisle, and the taking of Havannah. He commenced practice in London as a surgeon and accoucheur, but after a few years, viz., on the 23rd April, 1774, obtained a degree of doctor of medicine from the university of St. Andrew's; and was admitted a Licentiate of the College of Physicians 25th June, 1784. He had some time previous to this entered himself at St. Alban's hall, Oxford, with the view of qualifying himself for admission to the Fellowship of the College of Physicians. Some objections on account of non-residence, or some deviation from the statutes of the university, were opposed to his further progress; and he was not allowed to complete his doctors degree. Dr. Rowley was physician to the Marylebone infirmary, and consulting physician to the Queen's Lying-in hospital. He died at his house in Savile-row 17th March, 1806, and was buried with much pomp in St, James's chapel. Hampstead-road. Dr. Rowley was a determined opponent of vaccination, and obtained an unenviable notoriety by his association with Dr. Moseley in opposing every conceivable obstacle to the reception and progress of that invaluable discovery. His writings, which were numerous, are most of them popular in style, addressed to the public rather than to the profession ; and were calculated to promote his own private interests rather than to advance the science and art which it was his province to cultivate and practise. They have long fallen into complete and deserved oblivion. Neither his character nor career were of a kind we delight to dwell on.
