Description
1916. VERSCHUER, W.F.K. Baron van. ARY DE MILDE: Mr. THEEPOTBACKER. Amsterdam: Boek-, Kunst- & Handelsdrukkerij v/h Gebroeders Binger, 1916. First Edition. Twelve photo-illustrated plates, of which two are color, and text illustrations. Ary de Milde (1634-1708), a Dutch potter, produced red stoneware teapots after Chinese examples. The two color plates show individual teapots, while the remaining plates show multiple black & white images of teapots, plates, and other ceramics, with hallmarks on ceramics as text illustrations throughout. Quarto, bound in three-quarter leather with terra cotta cloth sides; gilt-stamped title to upper board and spine; t.e.g. The leather is dry and rubbed, and has darkened on spine; but the binding is sound. Non-authorial ink signature on title-page, endpapers are toned, and offsetting to pages 20-23, else clean and in very good condition overall. A hard to find monograph on this original artist by one of the most important Dutch collectors of both Oriental and Delft ceramics.
